It is recommended that the door system be drained and ventilated in accordance with Smart Systems' Technical Manual. Drip bar shall be used on all doors. |
Aluminium Window Glazing details: |
The thermally enhanced frames limit heat loss, thus reducing the likelihood of condensation forming on the interior surfaces. Typical U Value figures achieved by our sealed unit configuration of 24mm thickness, 6.4 laminated outer pane x 4mm toughened planitherm inner pane, with an aluminium spacer bar and argon filled cavity will achieve 1.2 W/m2K. Total window performance glazed with the above sealed unit configuration achieves a U Value figure of 2.2 W/m2K in accordance with building regulations for replacement windows into an existing dwelling. Windows shall be glazed and internally with square bead.
Unit thickness. Overall thickness of 24MM..
All internal glazed windows to be dry glazed using 'snap in' extruded aluminium beads and EPDM extruded gaskets. |
Aluminium Door Glazing details: |
Glazing shall be site glazed as section L40.
Windows shall be glazed internally with square bead.
Unit thickness. Overall thickness of 24mm.
All doors to be dry glazed using 'snap in' extruded aluminium beads and EPDM extruded gaskets. |
Ironmongery / Accessories: |
| Through frame trickle vent. |
Fixing: |
All fixings to be in strict accordance with the relevant British Standards, including BS 6262, and shall ensure the window is retained securely within the opening without incurring any damage or distortion to the window frame.
Generally, fixings to be positioned 150mm from each corner and each mullion/transom and at centres not exceeding 600mm.
Fixing lugs/straps only to be used where they can be suitably concealed to approval.
All fixing of windows to the supporting structure to be achieved using a suitable lug and/or frame anchor fixing method capable of accommodating all applicable loads, deflection, tolerances and expansion expected on site. |
Finishing: |
- Thermal break: The profiles consist of 2 aluminium extrusions which are separated from one another by polyamide strips PA 6.6.25 reinforced with glass fibre. A gluing thread, rolled and pushed in together with the thermal break profile, ensures a strong adhesion after melting and flowing, when the profiles are heated in the hardening furnace
- Possible to colour in wood structure to imitate different woods (powder coated according to Qualicoat). All coatings will be delivered with a certificate of guarantee for 15 years
- Anodisation: in satin or bronze colours with E.E.W.A./EURAS-Qualanod quality label
- Electrostatic powder coating: according to the guidelines of APA-Qualicoat in most of the current RAL-colours.
|
Procedure: |
- Wash down with warm water containing a non-alkaline liquid detergent using a non-abrasive cloth, sponge or soft bristle brush. This will remove grime, grease and chalking. All ridges, grooves, joints and drainage channels where salt or other deposits can collect should be well washed out, thus preventing corrosion sites from occurring.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water
- Dry using a soft cloth or leather
- Where a reduction in gloss is observed, chalking is evedent or excessive staining has occurred, then an approved renovating cream may be carefully applied with a non-abrasive cloth.
- Note: T-Cut or similar automotive paint restorer may be used provided it is not too abrasive!
- Care must be taken not to abrade sharp corners of section or aris of beads too heavily where the paint film is normally thinner, and it should be remembered that this operation should not be carried out too frequently.
- Polish with a soft cloth to restore gloss and colour uniformity.
- For extra protection a wax can be applied once or twice a year, again polishing with a soft cloth to restore glass.
|
Repair: |
| Blisters and corrosion sites may originate from areas where mechanical damage or scratches have penetrated the paint coating through to the aluminium or from cut bar or butt ends mitres, drill holes or drainage slots, where aluminium is unprotected. |
 |
Procedure: |
- Use fine grade 120-360 grit abrasive paper to remove corrosion products and any non-adherent paint.
- Wipe with white spirit or approved cleaning solvent.
- Ensure surface is absolutely dry before applying a thin priming coat. Allow 20-30minuites of 'flash off' using a fine brush.
- With a fine brush again, touch in the damaged and primed area with an air drying paint.
|
| It should be recognised that the air drying paint will not possess the same weathering properties as the stoved organic coating, but nevertheless will give a reasonable amount of protection. Their use should of course be confined to small areas of damage. |
Replacement of Broken Glass: |
| Windows and doors can be re-glazed and the gaskets and weatherstripping replaced using materials supplied. Any damage to the gasket or beads may necessitate replacement to retain the weather performance of the product. |
Replacement of Damaged Components: |
| If damage occurs, the furniture and fittings can be readily replaced by releasing the fixing screws and changing the fitting. |
Window Hardware Maintenance: |
The friction stays and locking mechanisms should be lubricated periodically to minimise wear and ensure smooth operation.
Care should be taken to avoid applying lubricant to the friction pads as this will impair their braking action. The resistance of the pads can be adjusted, if necessary, with the brass screws provided in each pad. |
Door Hardware Maintenance: |
| Hinges and locking mechanisms should be lubricated periodically to minimise wear and ensure smooth operations. |
| |
The ventilator shall comply with the code of practice for ventilation principles as outlined
in BS5925: 1991 and be tested in accordance with BS EN 1026: |

 |
|
Window / Door Profiles:
|
| All profiles are extruded from aluminium alloy 6063 TF (HE9) to BS1474: 1987. The product is thermally enhanced by employing a high strength, 2 part polyurethane resin which forms a thermal break between the front and rear of the profile. The principle profile is constructed around a single box section for strength and rigidity. |
Finish: |
 |
The standard finish is polyester powder coating to a minimum depth of 60 microns complying with the requirements of BS6493:1984.
Standard Colours
- HIPCA White Full Gloss
- Havana Brown Semi Gloss
- Graphite Black (RAL 9011) Semi Gloss
|
| All aluminium sections can be powder coated to any of the 135 RAL colours, but this instance (to match existing aluminium) is to be painted HIPCA white full gloss to a minimum depth of 60 microns complying with the requirements of BS6493:1984. |
Glazing Range: |
| The space thermal break system will accept double glazed sealed units, up to a maximum 32mm width. Glazing rebates are in accordance with BS 6262: 1982. It will also accept single glazed up to 6.4mm. The double glazed units installed on this project consisted of a makeup of 4mm clear toughened x 4mm clear toughened (argon filled) with a spacer size of 16mm. The u value achieved with this make up of unit is 1.1 W/m2. |
Gaskets and Seals: |
Opening vents are weather sealed around their perimeter with a high quality silicone, treated woven polypropylene pile. A high performance TPR bubble seal gasket is available for high rise and other installations requiring performance in excess of normal severe requirements.
Glass is sealed into the window with high performance siliconised thermoplastic rubber (TPR) dual hardness gasket, an optional isolator flipper gasket is available to isolate the aluminium direct fix outerframe from substrates. |
Fittings: |
The system will accept most 18mm base, 12.5mm stack height stainless steel friction hinges including the restrictor egress options. Locking options include a high security shootbolt system, espagnolette rods with night vent facility and basic cotspur handles. |
